Nico Myatovic is skating toward a future in the National Hockey League.
The 19-year-old forward was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2023 NHL entry draft. In his draft year, Myatovic put up 30 goals and 30 assists in 68 regular-season games with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. Then, in playoffs, he helped the Thunderbirds to a WHL championship. That victory qualified the T-birds for the Memorial Cup tournament, where they went all the way to the final but fell to the Quebec Remparts.
This season, Myatovic’s playing time with the Thunderbirds was limited by an injury, but he still averaged nearly a point per game. The six-foot-three left winger is known for his intelligence on the ice, and a quick release on his hard and accurate shot.
Noah Lank’s passion for football is paying off.
Lank is a member of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, who compete in the Canada West conference of U Sports, the highest level of post-secondary athletics in the country. He’s a triple-threat on offence, with the ability to hit the field at receiver, tight end or running back.
Lank’s journey to university football started in the Prince George Minor Football Association when he was just five years old. Once he reached high school, he suited up for the Duchess Park Condors all five years and helped them win a zone championship in his Grade 12 season. That year, he was recognized as the B.C. High School Football offensive player of the year in the double-A division.
Lank also played for the Prince George Kodiaks in 2022, their inaugural year in the Canadian Junior Football League.
On the field and in the classroom, Reese Wiseman has high expectations of herself. She’s living up to them at Grays Harbor College.
Wiseman plays for the women’s softball team at Grays Harbor, located in Aberdeen, Washington. She’s in her freshman season with Grays Harbor and is quickly making herself an invaluable member of the squad. Offensively, she hits with equal amounts of power and precision. On defence, she’s a standout at third base but has the versatility to play pretty much anywhere on the field.
Wiseman is also excelling academically. In her first semester at Grays Harbor, she maintained a 4.0 grade point average and made the President’s Honour List.
Wiseman honed her softball skills with the Prince George Thunderbirds and Kelowna Heat. She’s a graduate of College Heights Secondary, where she compiled a 3.9 GPA in her Grade 12 year.
Fischer O’Brien is a hometown success story in the sport of hockey.
O’Brien – now in his final season of junior with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the B.C. Hockey League – came up through the Prince George Minor Hockey Association and the Cariboo Cougars program. As a hard-working forward, he helped the Cougars win a provincial championship in 2018-19 and was drafted into the Western Hockey League by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in 2018. The Hurricanes traded O’Brien to the Prince George Cougars, and he played with the Cats for three seasons.
This season, O’Brien has become a valuable all-around member of the Bulldogs. He plays a reliable 200-foot game and contributes regularly on offence.
Looking forward, O’Brien will be continuing his educational and hockey journey at Royal Military College.
