Nico Myatovic is skating toward a future in the National Hockey League.
The 19-year-old forward was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2023 NHL entry draft. In his draft year, Myatovic put up 30 goals and 30 assists in 68 regular-season games with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. Then, in playoffs, he helped the Thunderbirds to a WHL championship. That victory qualified the T-birds for the Memorial Cup tournament, where they went all the way to the final but fell to the Quebec Remparts.
This season, Myatovic’s playing time with the Thunderbirds was limited by an injury, but he still averaged nearly a point per game. The six-foot-three left winger is known for his intelligence on the ice, and a quick release on his hard and accurate shot.
